Base salary is determined by a combination of factors, but not limited to education, training, years of experience and internal equity.
Opportunity Summary
Reporting to the Director, Estimating, you will work collaboratively with the Project Management team and provide day to day coaching to the estimating team to drive successful estimates, create positive long-term trade relationships and assist with meeting the department objectives.
- As Scott’s Estimating Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring estimates are of the highest quality; project risks are managed; and the client is happy with the preconstruction services that we provide.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain policies, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency within the Estimating department.
- Coach, mentor, and develop the team to achieve maximum performance.
- Support the creation of goals and strategies for the Estimating department and ensure delivery of those goals.
- Assist in securing new work by participating in proposals, presentations, and providing leads to the BD/Pre-construction team.
- Lead and review project estimates, including:
- Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Consult and collaborate with project teams about the general requirements, construction methodology, and schedules during the Tender/Pre-construction process.
- Prepare and coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, lump sum, or general tender for a variety of projects.
- Interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings to define scope/contents of estimates.
- Understand and highlight contract risks for the senior management team.
- Perform quantity take-offs from tender drawings.
- Develop and present detailed budgets; review/analyze bid packages from subcontractors.
- Represent Scott Construction at company sponsored and industry events.
- Maintain awareness of current marketplace trends to gain and maintain our competitive advantage.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience performing estimating work on construction projects ranging from $100,000 to $100 million in spend
- 1+ year of people coaching and supervisory experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in building technology, construction management or quantity surveying CEC, PQS or similar designations an asset
- Experience estimating commercial, multi-family residential and institutional buildings with General Contractors in the Vancouver area
- Familiarity with drawing reviews, contract administration, document management, scheduling software, change order procedures
- Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project with Procore considered an asset
- Proven integrity when dealing with clients, trades, and consultants
